Tomoyuki Hirota, oboe 

Tomoyuki Hirota has been principal oboe of the Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra since 2006, and also is the training executive of the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra. Prior to these positions, he was appointed solo oboist of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra while a student at Kunitachi College of Music, making him the first contract solo oboist of the Japanese orchestras ever. Mr. Hirota was highly acclaimed by The Times at a European tour with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra in March 2003.
Since September 2000, Mr. Hirota has given solo recitals at the celebrated halls throughout Japan, such as Casals Hall, Hakuju Hall, and Hamarikyu Asahi Hall in Tokyo, Izumi Hall in Osaka, and Alti in Kyoto.
As a soloist, he has appeared with such orchestras as the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra, the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, La Scala String Orchestra in Milan, the Czech Chamber Soloists, the Salzburg Chamber Orchestra, the Moscow Soloists, the Vietnam Symphony Orchestra, among others. He also has frequently appeared at TV and Radio programs on such channels as NHK or FM.
Devoted to chamber music, Mr. Hirota has been performing regularly as a member of the Kioi Sinfonietta Tokyo and the Euros Ensemble.
In addition to his extensive orchestral career, Mr. Hirota actively explores his musical activities giving his own recital series Hirota Oboe Laboratory, and producing accomplished music videos.
Mr. Hirota is also a sought-after Jazz performer appearing frequently at STB139, a celebrated Jazz club in Roppongi.
Mr. Hirota's discography includes three albums for Victor Entertainment, and two albums of works by J.S. Bach, a disc of opera music by Mozart, and oboe sonatas for the Octavia Records. In addition his recent album featuring the works in the 20th century is highly acclaimed.
Mr. Hirota is a jury member of major competitions such as the Music Competition of Japan, Japan Wind and Percussion Competition and others.
Mr. Hirota has been the professor of Ueno Gakuen since 2009, and is also a member of the faculties of Tokyo College of Music. He is a board member of Japan Oboe Association.
